About MMA

Housed in Meridian’s historic Carnegie Library—built in 1912–13 and placed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1979 (and designated a Mississippi Landmark in 1985)—the Meridian Museum of Art has been a cultural cornerstone since its founding in 1970. Originally the city’s First Presbyterian Church before becoming a library, the building was transformed into the museum after the public libraries integrated and relocated, preserving both architectural character and local heritage. What began as exhibitions by the Meridian Art League (founded in 1933) eventually grew into this permanent home—showcasing rotating exhibits, educational programming, and a substantial collection of eighteenth‑ through twentieth‑century European portraits, Southern photography, sculpture, and works on paper by regional artists.
